txspecks04 Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Hey guys just wanted to see if anyone has fished out here lately. I am itching to do some trout fishing, but no boat for me so I am wondering if we are back down to wadeable levels yet. Looks like lake level at Table Rock has dropped out a lot (918.5 according to link on forum), so I should be good to go but I wanted to check with someone more local before I make the 1.5-2 hour drive out there. Thanks for the help.
ecce38 Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I was on the tailwater today, but I was in my kayak. There are some places to wade- just below the dam, some areas up from parker bottoms. I've been fishing from my kayak. Regardless, fishing is slow these days. Throwing a big fly on a sink tip line might be your best bet right now. It's worked for me. Got 10-12 today, mostly before 12pm. txspecks04 Posted July 22, 2011 Author Posted July 22, 2011 Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the input. If you don't mind my asking, when you say a big fly, what size does that mean? #8? I am sure size probably varies from one body of water to the next but what kind of range would you suggest at Beaver? I have been wanting to learn how to fish streamers on sink tip for trout...I have tried a few times with very limited success. I fish this way for bass quite often with a fairly high success rate, but trout seems to be a different animal for some reason. Thanks again for the info.

This is the actual fly I caught the smallie with....it's called a "baby bugger". I guess it's not all that big after all... On The Fly 6 Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 I fished below the dam today and didnt do to bad. I was fishing size 16 and 18 midges 2-4 feet below an indicator and was able to catch and miss several fish. Many of the takes were really aggressive and I lost a fly or two. They seemed to like a basic red midge and a burnt orange w/ red wire midge. I managed to catch one on an Olive Wooly, but since my 4 wt has floating line...I didnt fish with it very long. I was at parker bottoms at the end of the trail that takes you through the wooded area( that's to the left of the parking lot) I wet waded and became a little numb dsaJUST as the horn blew. I forgot how much I enjoy the scenery down there! Lots of canoes and kayaks on the water...but they were all very courteous and went behind me. txspecks04 Posted July 25, 2011 Author Posted July 25, 2011 Thanks for the heads up OTF6. I haven't really fished at all down by Parker Bottoms, always up closer to the dam than that. I will have to give that a try sometime here in the near future. I could see them liking red or burnt orange midges, I typically do best with copper johns out at Beaver (similar coloration).
Members Dave Marks Posted July 28, 2011 Members Posted July 28, 2011 Any seen some hopper action on the tailwater yet?
On The Fly 6 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Any seen some hopper action on the tailwater yet? I was on the river today, and there were a lot of dragon flies on or just above the water. There was a hatch going on, but I didn't see a whole lot of takes off the surface. I managed to catch around 10-15.( I wasn't really counting nor am I bragging!) I fished a size 16 burnt orange midge w/ red wire most of the morning and into the early afternoon. Fished at Parker Bottoms. A lot of people going by in boats and canoes said they were having trouble catching anything and many mentioned not evening getting any bites! I'm glad I wore my lucky hat!
