Members Fishin Maniac Posted August 13, 2006 Members Posted August 13, 2006 Has anybody been able to float Buck hollow to Bay Creek lately? Looks like the Buck gage is hanging around 1' and around 30 cfs. I want to float this stretch in a couple of weeks w/ no camping gear. What kind of #'s has everyone been catching?
Al Agnew Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 30 cfs is simply too low...you WILL be walking most of the riffles, even with an almost empty canoe. Which is not impossible, but it will be work.
Gavin Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 As Al said, 30 cfs is pretty low, and you are talking about an 18 mile float.... The lowest level that I've ever floated out of Buck was around 63cfs, and we walked almost every shoal. Should be a lot more walking involved at 30cfs, especially after the gradient drops not far below Rhymers. I usually like to float that stretch when its flowing in the 100-250cfs range at Buck, and at that level I'd consider it a long 2 day float if you plan to fish a lot. If you dont mind a lot of work, you can make it at this level, but I'd allow a lot of extra time. Cheers.
BrianK Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Looks like flows may be good for a few more days. Go today! Hopefully this rain will continue. I was also thinking about making a return visit in Sep maybe from Ebb/Flow spring or Rhymers down to Bay Ck. Any advice on the best shuttle?? - Go Ebb/flow (any access there?) to Bay and stay on North side of river to shuttle? - or go from Rhymers and down and around Alley to Bay (looks long)? - or is neither a good idea??? First trip went from Blue Spring to Rhymers. Anyone been fishing there lately?? bk
