FishinCricket Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 Wow, that looks like it must have extremely fun. Do you have an outboard on that john? Did you ever get into water that was too shallow to float? My buddy has a john and I've been talking about fishing up in the river. Looks like we're going to have to do it. Nah, an outboard would leave ya dragging every riffle... That boat is a 16x36 and, stripped down, it drafts in about 2 inches of water.. We still bumped rocks in most of the riffles.. Good luck! cricket.c21.com
Trout Commander Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Stellar! I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
dennis boatman Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 I'm headed down that way tomrrow...Anxious to try some new "foam terrestrials" I've been tying... A strike indicator is just a bobber...
dennis boatman Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Think these will work? A strike indicator is just a bobber...
podum Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I'd be interested in knowing how you do. I've never fished the Niangua in late summer but have had lots of success in late summer everywhere I've fished with foam terrestrials. Especially hoppers and stone fly imitators. Looking forward to the report. I'd hang a #14 pheasant tail off of the bend for insurance. I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I don't know why they wouldn't. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
dennis boatman Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I'm gonna stick to my guns and fish on top all day...might rain...but I'll already be wet...so...I'll report... A strike indicator is just a bobber...
dennis boatman Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 River was up at least a foot...off color...managed 2 small browns and one rainbow all on foam terrestrials...fish were right on the bank...wading was shaky at best and canoe traffic was minimal...I should have checked river level before I left...lesson learned...all in all fun as always... A strike indicator is just a bobber...
