mic Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I agree with Gavin. It is easier to just say no tresspassing than a sign that says "no toddlers in dirty diapers throwing rocks, hot dog campfires, loud stereos, rope swings, jumping off of the dam, mullets, beer cans, cut-off jean shorts, etc. I understand where they are coming from, but this is really frustrating. I enjoy catching smallies and goggle eye there when I don't feel like driving an hour or two to a lake. It's a relaxing spot. I don't go in the summer for the reasons I mentioned. There is nothing like slaying 40 goggle eye until you are tired of realing 'em in. (All thrown back, of course). It is really hard to find good river spots in the summer where people aren't screaming and getting plowed on Busch Lite. It would be nice if there were some designated fishing only areas along the James and Finley. Oh well. I feel better now. What's wrong with mullets?

Jack Jones Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 So....wading and fishing in my speedos is out too? "Thanks to Mother Mercy, Thanks to Brother Wine, Another night is over and we're walking down the line" - David Mallett
Trout Commander Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 ... And cut off skinny denim jean shorts? Just the way you look in them. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
Daveinozark Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 http://ccheadliner.c...19bb2963f4.html that is the most confusing article. It goes back and forth and even Kyle admits it's just a scare tactic. Last year there was an article talking about a greater police presence due to the drinking and partying. Seems to make more sense to enforce no alcohol and nip the problem in the bud. I intend to keep fishing there! I'm even going to spit on the precious dam as I climb over it!
smallmouthjoe Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 I'm even going to spit on the precious dam as I climb over it! Why not pull an all out monkey wrench gang assault on it. I'll be your alibi if you need one.
Al Agnew Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 I understand the landowners' point of view, I really do. There have been a lot of times and places when I was a little uneasy, let alone seriously disgusted, to reach a public access and see all the crap that goes on there, and the last time I was knocking around the area south of Springfield one summer day just driving to various stream accesses to check them out, every one I went to that was listed as a good access in Chuck Tryon's book was either posted, gated off, or completely covered with river dorks. What I think needs to be done is for a bunch of you SWMO anglers to get together and form an organization, either a Smallmouth Alliance chapter, a Stream Team, or a Riverkeepers type organization, and meet together with the county officials to get something done about this...and at the same time, let it be known that the organization will be watching accesses like this, reporting on illegal activities, and keeping the places clean. Guys, I suspect that we're going to be seeing more and more of this stuff because it seems like more and more people are ready and willing to trash any access they can get to, and more and more landowners are getting fed up with it. We need to be a counterbalancing force that will be the "good guys", keeping these accesses cleaned up, but also the people who are willing to fight to keep them open.
mic Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 So....wading and fishing in my speedos is out too? Wait a second.... is that you in the box? Wiggle, Wiggle, Wiggle, Yea...
