OzarkFishman Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Hi all, I have been a part of this forum for a few years now and it has been a great learning experience. This year, I get to teach a Conservation class one hour and math the rest. Next year, I may get to teach Conservation all day long. There are many resources out there, but we can always use more. I could use the following (and am willing to drive/pay for shipping if need be) ... 1) any websites that are jam packed full of hunting, fishing or conservation knowledge. 2) any old DVDs that you have laying around the house. 3) ANYTHING that you deem educational in any manner. It would be great if any of you guys or gals that are in a related profession would like to come in and speak to the class. Thanks in advance, Shawn

Chief Grey Bear Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I didn't see the MDC on that list. Probably the best site for info for teaching. http://mdc.mo.gov/ Chief Grey Bear Living is dangerous to your health Owner Ozark Fishing Expeditions Co-Owner, Chief Executive Product Development Team Jerm Werm Executive Pro Staff Team Agnew Executive Pro Staff Paul Dallas Productions Executive Pro Staff Team Heddon, River Division Chief Primary Consultant Missouri Smallmouth Alliance Executive Vice President Ronnie Moore Outdoors
OzarkFishman Posted August 19, 2011 Author Posted August 19, 2011 Thanks guys. We already use the MDC site A LOT. I just got certified this summer to teach Hunter Ed, so that will be part of the curriculum as well. We also received grant money and will be ordering an archery set for the school and last year we bought 20 spincast combos to practice casting. This class is really coming together, just wanted to see if any of you all had anything that would be educational. Thanks again for the websites. Good luck on the water (or at work), Shawn
Members FJ80 Posted August 19, 2011 Members Posted August 19, 2011 Consider taking part in Project WET, Project Wild, AND Project Learning Tree to help you get in touch with tons of teaching resources that are matched to state standards. If you are anywhere close to Springfield, take the students to Wonders of Wildlife and most certainly the Watershed Center. Field trips to both places can be scheduled by contacting the sponsoring organizations. Don't forget about the Discovery Center for the younger students. Check out the following websites for further information.... www.watershedcommittee.org projectwet.missouristate.edu www.discoverycenter.org www.wondersofwildlife.org Read Last Child in the Woods and get those kids out and in nature!!! Good luck.
Outside Bend Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 You may want to call the regional office in Springfield and see if there are any biologists or other folks there who'd like to come talk with your class. The Stream Team Program, and the James River Watershed Alliance (I think that's what it's called), would be other good options. There's also: The Missouri Chapter of the American Fisheries Society- www.moafs.org The Missouri Chapter of the Wildlife Society- www.motws.org Get in touch with those folks, and they may be able to line up some professional speakers for you. Good luck! <{{{><
