fishbait3 Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I am planning on going this weekend to bennet just to get away from city life, I will be tent camping but was wondering where would be the best place if in the park or at an outfitter. I am not a partier so i would prefer quietness. I want to do some fishing but not wanting to do alot of driving to get to some spots. any info will be helpful.
FishinCricket Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 The park should be okay by now, most of the "partiers" that everyone complains about are back in school and/or are outta money for the summer... The camping in the park is convenient and cheap.. cricket.c21.com
brittsnbirds Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 What day and what time are you planning on arriving? There are a few primitive spots in Campground 5. They have a picnic table and power. Plus they are close to the pooper!!
TroutRinger Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 What day and what time are you planning on arriving? There are a few primitive spots in Campground 5. They have a picnic table and power. Plus they are close to the pooper!! Primitive camping and power seem contradictory. Not that I wouldn't take the power or anything . "Of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy." "There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like an idiot."
brittsnbirds Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 "Primative" is what they call it! Check out this url; http://mostateparks.com/campground/bennett-spring-state-park-campground-5 It is a map of CG 5. And actually 518, 519 and 541 do not have power, my bad! You can tent camp in any of the sites in the park. Campground 5 is non-reservable, first come first serve.
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I agree the park would be the first choice, but a good alternate is Riverfront, just west of the park on 64. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
NoLuck Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I agree the park would be the first choice, but a good alternate is Riverfront, just west of the park on 64. A buddy of mine and myslef tent camped at riverfront about 5 years ago and it wasn't too bad. Just find a high spot in the cut grass someplace in the shade close to the river. As long as you don't need electric it is great. The problem I have seen in CG#5 is that there is no grass. I guess you could always use a good ground tarp to pad it somewhat.

ciRe Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Wish I would have seen this earlier. I was down there in CG#5 which like said before there really isn't any grass but the air mattress does good. I usually camp at riverfront but with gas prices being so high I have to take the focus for the MPG. Quiet time this weekend and hardly anyone down there (At the CG#5) . + I got to try out my new 9' 4wt.
fishbait3 Posted August 29, 2011 Author Posted August 29, 2011 thats cool, i was in CG3 it was peaceful. i had a great time with my 4wt caught some and lost some, Most were small to regular size a few nice ones were being seen. I only fished at the spring this time.
