Members tkite Posted September 2, 2011 Members Posted September 2, 2011 Coming down tomorrow and staying on taneycomo for the weekend before going to our condo on table rock next week. I'm staying at lakeshore resort and plan on fishing between there and 65 bridge. I want to try trout fishing a little but I have no clue what I'm doing. Can u just drift the boat with the current and drag power bait worm behind the boat? Also is bass fishing any good this far up in the lake. I see slot of little creeks coming into taneycomo in this area. I'm assuming if they are up in that area this is a good place to start. Jigs, grubs, tubes? What's a good lure to start with. Would love to get a guide but reason I'm off is because were laid off from work for 2 weeks so I'm going cheap. Anyway any help is appreciated. 1 more thing what is good outboard etiqutte on the river. Don't wanna be the idiot in the bass boat. Do you idle past people drifting or is it okay to run thru?
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted September 2, 2011 Root Admin Posted September 2, 2011 Water temp is the key. You're going to have to go above the bridges I'd think to find good fishing for trout. Creeks aren't going to help at all- they're even warmer than the lake. I'd go up as far as Cooper Creek or further is needed. Probably not going to see much current either. Anchor and still fishing with night crawlers. Boating- watch your wake and you'll be fine.

So just like a split shot and nightcrawler? Guess i gotta stop and buy an anchor.
Gatorjet Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Phil gives great advise on fishing Taneycomo. I have often told people I have learned that there are three ways other than fly fishing to catch trout on Taney. Bass fishing, crappie fishing, or cat fishing. Bass fishing: stick baita like Rappalas and Roughs, and small jigs bounced and dragged on the bottom. Crappie fishing: Small jigs (micro-jigs) fished under a float. Cat fishing. As Phil suggested a night crawler on the bottom. either still fishing, or drifting with the current. Good luck, but be careful. those slick little pink fish can be habit forming! Real men go propless!
Members freelancer 11 Posted September 2, 2011 Members Posted September 2, 2011 I fish Senkos along the wall next to Bass Pro all the way past the walk-way. That has produced some good bass for me.
