Guest Buck Creek Mike Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Got down to the lake last night and after imbibing in some adult beverages couldn't make it on the water until about noon. Didn't have high hopes, but just wanted to get out and have a look around. I fished the cove North of Big Cedar cove and was pleasantly surprised in about 2.5 hours between me and my buddy we boated 8 fish - 4 smallies (two keepers, one was about 17" and the other just over 15"), three kentuckies, and 1 largemouth that could have been just shy of 15". Man those smallies fought hard! Caught the keeper smallies and two other fish on green 3/8ths jig with watermelon chompers twin tail. My buddy caught his four on 6" watermalon shakey head worm with 3/8ths oz football head. The better fish came in 15-25' of water and seemed to catch them around trees that were just under the surface and some were visible in approx. 25' of water. Can't wait to see if we can do any good tomorrow early. I am used to LOZ, so I didn't think it was too rough, mainly only when running on the main lake, but while fishing was calm, though we did try to pick a spot that was back in the cove a little ways out of the traffic. I am really pumped to catch a nice smallie, haven't caught one since I was in Canada 4 years or so ago. I'll report tomorrow, and I'm here till wednesday, so hopefully more to come!
