timsfly Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Fishing is better than ever on roaring river, lots of nice fish being caught, I know of a 7 and 9 and several 3 pound + fish being caught just this past week. Still great dry fly fishing, tricos in the mornings, caddis, and B.W.O's most of the afternoons, some midge activity most of the day, still catching a lot of fish on beetles and hoppers, and ants. Cracklebacks will catch fish most days, and so will zebra midges, small pheasant tails, small woolybuggers and gray sow bugs are pretty hard to beat right now. I'm using 9' 7X leaders right now, if you are using buggers, and larger nymphs, you can get by with 6X fluorocarbon right now, and if you just fish the riffles, 6X fluoro will work all day for you. Tan zebra midges are working well, the chamois worm is really good right now, and I'm catching a few on red san juan worms, but the dry fly fishing is exceptional right now, come over and have some top water fun. Black spinners are working every day right now, and green and brown are pretty good also. Plastics will catch fish every day right now, but use 2 lb low vis or ultragreen line for best results. Orange, white, cheese and pink is good for the worms right now, and for the eggs, brown, white orange, and flo. yellow. Marabou jigs and micro jigs are great right now, olive, and white are the most productive colors, but on a overcast day the black/yellow has been good, marabou jigs use olive, white, black/yellow and ginger, these colors are working. Still fish being caught on small crankbaits and spoons, these fish better in the deeper sections, but they are working pretty good. In zone 3 nightcrawlers and powerbait paste or nuggets has been very good, good luck on the river, and remember, the water is very low and very clear, the lighter the line the better right now, if you got the right equipment, 1lb line will catch a lot of fish in a day, good luck. Members osuangler Posted September 9, 2011 Members Posted September 9, 2011 Hello Tim! Thanks for the report and I sure hope to get up there soon. Its been a pretty rough year down here in OK, but we're getting thru. Anywho, if you get a chance to post some more pics, I'd sure appreciate it! Thanks Jay Parker An angler is a man who spends rainy days sitting around on the muddy banks of rivers doing nothing because his wife won't let him do it at home. ~Author Unknown
