I have watched and learned more about conference realignment in the past year than I ever cared to know. I am a proud grad of OSU and bleed orange, married to one of the biggest boomer sooners there is (yes, its a hostile house divided) and have concluded that the Big 12 is done. I understand that the big teams in the conference are Texas and OU and that their lions share of the money is and has been warranted for many years. But with other schools starting to becomse more relevant, the way the money is split is no longer going to work. Then you add in TV revenue and the like and the complications multiply. I truly love the Big 12 and hate to see it go, but unless they can all meet and decide that splitting the money evenly throughout the conference (good example-SEC), all the while making it more attractive to other prospective schools, then it will never work. The two conference that I think all Texas and Oklahoma fans can agree on are the PAC whatever and the SEC. Geographically, the SEC makes a lot more sense, but my gut feeling is that OSU/OU are heading west.

Thoughts?

OSU.....

I can relate....I remember when the Southwest Conference broke up and my alma mater, Baylor, went independent. I couldn't understand why the strongest conference in the US was being absorbed by all the others. So now we have a big mess....and like many other bad decisions, greed is the motivator.

I think we should make up a giant tournament bracket, single elimination, with the winners playing each other until the Champ is determined, while the losers play out the season in a nationwide schedule. The Bowl Games could be the playoffs for the top 32 (or whatever number of teams) that get to the last 5 or 6 weeks undefeated. The college champion would be the winner of the game in the final bracket, to be played on New Years day.

All proceeds of every game should be split between all the college teams in the US, per their division.

Two or more tournament brackets should be played, according to the divisions that already exist.

What do you think? :serious-business:

Totally agree! I am a huge advocate of the playoff system in college football and I have argued the same point about the bowl games being the sweet sixteen of college football or what ever the number of games needs be. TV money, espn, the NCAA all have too much money invested in the bowl games and current system right now. Unfortunately, until someone busts that gig up, we're stuck with what we have.
