Arofishing Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 I'd forgotten all about this, trying to talk my friend into going as we speak. I'll even skip the game just this once . What is the canoe/kayak situation? I saw that they're allowed, but do you guys or a place nearby rent and ferry for the day? I've also never fished the Current, do you expect most people will be using some type of vessel or just wading?

I've also never fished the Current, do you expect most people will be using some type of vessel or just wading? I don't know anything about the event, but the Current is a really easy river to wade. It's a small, relatively shallow stream in the Blue Ribbon water and there really aren't any places you can't wade to...Well there are a few but not enough to be a problem.
Gavin Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Contact Jadwin Canoe if you want to float Baptist to Cedargrove...or Aker's Ferry if you want to float Cedargrove to Aker's...Weather is still nice, so the Cedargrove to Akers stretch is likely to be busy. Hope you have a great turnout. Would love to attend, but a family obligation got in the way. Have fun.
E Green Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Is this event fly fishing/trout fishing only? I am VERY interested in checking out some different sections of the Current River and I was planning on doing just that this weekend. We moved to the Elsinore, MO area from Milwaukee, WI last spring and we have only been to Van Buren and Doniphan area of the Current(love both places just want to see/experience some other spots as well). I would love to come out and support your efforts and spend the day on the river fishing. Any link to a website where i can get more info on rules, address, directions etc.? Like I said, new to the area so still trying to figure out where everything is... edit....nevermind..just saw the number listed to call for more info...thanks and good luck with the event....hope it goes well
Arofishing Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Here is a link to the site as well: http://www.reedscabins.com/fly_fishing_tournament.htm
Idylwilde Posted September 13, 2011 Author Posted September 13, 2011 The weather forecast for Saturday has a slight chance of showers with the high to be in the 70's. I have made a small change in the format of the 2 man teams part. I know some of the guy's attending is very familiar to the Upper Current River and some of the guy's from AR, & MO have never seen the river. I myself will do some transporting of the new guy's to sections of the river but I will not be guiding or fishing the event. I bet some of the other anglers would be glad to if not discuss sections with the new guy's lead them to the turn offs to the sections. As far as the kayak's and canoes as the say in the Army if you got em use em if you want. This is a day for fun and learning making new friends and helping out a great organization. I will have a map of the sections and will have a pre event question and answer for the new guest. The fishing has been good for the last week. The cool temps has the Brown trout moving around and feeding in the day light now. Last Saturday I caught 4 browns drifting a caddis pupa under a Chernobyl ant. Another thing we would like to get from this event is the number of brown trout in the trophy size is caught. With the caliber of anglers we should be able to get a glimpse of how the trophy water is doing or how bad it is. I know we lost a bunch of the bigger brownd during the hot weather last month to the park anglers. Take a Child Fishing they are the future of the sport.
ozark trout fisher Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 . I know we lost a bunch of the bigger brownd during the hot weather last month to the park anglers. Yep. But at least there seems to be plenty and more than plenty of smaller browns coming up to take their place. The river should have some excellent brown trout fishing in the years to come in less we suffer from really low water/high temps over the next few summers. I would say that the Current is about as friendly right now to people who have never fished it before as it will ever get with all the small, eager browns around to keep the action going. Treat those little guys gently though! They'll be a very good class of trophy fish in a few years if we let 'em grow up. Good luck with your event, I'm sure you'll all have a great time.
Idylwilde Posted September 14, 2011 Author Posted September 14, 2011 We received another $1000.00 worth of fly fishing products yesterday to add to the 1000 we already had. The Vendors have went all out with the great Items Like Shark Skin 4# Line, Two more Greys Reels 5-6# With 3 extra spools each, Rio Fly line, Two more Fly Rods, 5-6# 9' 4pc with case, Fly Boxes, & More. Weather is going to be cool and just right for fishing. We are so hoping we have a good turn out so we can make this a annual event. Take a Child Fishing they are the future of the sport.
