Guest Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 I heard a rumor that Eagles Park campground near Tan Vat is no longer open. I was wondering if anyone knows firsthand if this is true? A group of us are headed to the Current this weekend for our annual fall trip and we traditionally stay there. If the rumors are true and the park is closed, does anyone have any suggestions for alternative camping sites? Any Info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Cole
Arofishing Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 We briefly drove by and I didn't see any signs of life, but it was quick and I wasn't exactly looking that hard. So I wouldn't take that as an indication one way or the other. Have you called them? There's always the state park of course, though you'll want to reserve in advance.
Gavin Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Call down there and ask....Other options....Ozark Mountain Ranch just down the road...no number handy but the folks are very nice..camp on the river for free....or you can try grabbing a non-reservable site up at Montauk..Look in Loop 2 & 3. Cheers.
Guest Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Gavin, Do you know of any particular spots on the river that would be good? There will be 4-5 of us?
Nortrad Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Have also camped at Ozark Mountain several times, I think I paid $7/night, table and firepit, privacy, which is nice. Probably won't be that private if Eagle's is closed.

Guest Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Just keep following the gravel toward baptist camp, it will be on the left hand side of the road. Just set up camp and they will come collect the fee.

Members swilson Posted September 19, 2011 Members Posted September 19, 2011 Went by there last week on way to Tan Vat...looked like there were folks camped by the road...but, sign says it is for sale.Link (scroll down)
ozark trout fisher Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 I would recommend Ozark Mountain as well. I have stayed there a couple times, it's a nice place and the owners are good people. I would try to stay out of Montauk Campground if I was you, it's really loud and not exactly the atmosphere I know I want when I go camping on an Ozark stream. Now I about always just camp on the river though.
