Big Keene Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 my brother and i will be walleye fishing on Stockton for the first time on Thursday and Friday, does anyone have any suggestions on where to fish? we have a fairly good idea about what they are biting on, we just could really use some ideas on where. we will be putting in at Orleans Trail. Please and Thank You. Illegitimi non carborundum (Never let the bastards grind you down)
Members Boat Newb Posted September 20, 2011 Members Posted September 20, 2011 Dad and I would troll out in the middle at a slow speed using spoons or other shiny lures. I was never successful, but he would catch quite a few. Thats the only way we ever caught any or tried to.
SmallyWally Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Your in a pretty decent area, where your putting in at. Lots of areas on your side to the darn as well as the Crabtree Cove side. Lots of good water to cover. There are other areas south but if you want to stay close, this should work for you. Good Fishing. fishbait3 Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 contact Bob at Stockton Lake Guide Service 417-234-8988 he would be very helpful with some good info on what to use and where to go from that location. Hope this helps
kwall Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Well, I plan on fishin' there this weekend myself , they should be feeding closer to The bank now that the water is cooler , try the points and especially if the wind is blow'in into them , they like to eat this time of year and they scatter a bit ,so move if not getting bites , should be a good weekend
Big Keene Posted September 21, 2011 Author Posted September 21, 2011 Thanks all for the advice. Ill let you know how we do. Illegitimi non carborundum (Never let the bastards grind you down)
Big Keene Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 No keepers, but we caught 11 short walleye, almost 20 bass(largemouth and spots), and a crappie jigging crawlers on the gravel points and flats, and trolling the flats and chunk rock points around Orleans Trail. We caught 2 white bass chasing shad by the darn early yesterday on a rooster tail and a buzz bait. Not bad for not having been on that lake for over 10 years and never having fished walleye before. Thanks again to all for the advice. Fish On! Illegitimi non carborundum (Never let the bastards grind you down)
SmallyWally Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Good for you guys. My dad and I are coming down for roughly 10 days of serious fishing. We really enjoy spending time @ Stockton and in our opinion this is the best time of the year for multiple reasons. We stay @ Crabtree Cove Campground, only hope the darn politicians don't shut down the government. Kindness is the language the blind can see and the deaf can hear.-- Mark Twain
Big Keene Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 The lake was awesome. we decided that we were going to have to make this a more regular trip. We usually fish TLR and some times Mark Twain, but we really liked Stockton. Seemed like the fish were starting to get more shallow. we did the best in about 15 feet of water, although we never went more shallow than about 10-12ft. If I had to do it again now, i would try to move around the 8-10ft range some, just to see if they are moving up. Good luck SmallyWally. Fish On!
