Sinking Line

looking at buy some sinking line. I notice some lines gives u grains and some gives sink rate? Which is better. Also will a sink line keep a fly down in current say like with 3 or 4 generation running and if so what grain or ips would u recommend to throw some pretty good size flys for 8wt.

I throw a 300 grain on my 8 weight and a 200 grain on my 6 weight. My understanding is important to match the proper grain weight with the proper rod weight to avoid rod damage. To be honest they fish about the same in moving water. I know nothing about the sink tip lines.
