Members Adam Snodgrass Posted October 5, 2011 Members Posted October 5, 2011 I'm planning on heading down Saturday morning. Haven't been down in several weeks and last time I only caught one all morning. Any advice on what they're liking lately? Planning on trying some midges, nymphs and caddis. Adam
Members jgentile Posted October 5, 2011 Members Posted October 5, 2011 The wife and I are headed down to the bust this weekend as well. As far as what they are hitting... I'm throwing large streamers early and late, perhaps some dry fly action on bwo patterns and as always an assortment of soft hackles as well as a few nymphs. It should be a blast.
ozark trout fisher Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I plan to be down there Friday night through Sunday afternoon. Mostly likely I'll fish parker hollow, maybe a little up at Baptist too. Should be a tough weekend for fishing with the low water and the forecast for bright sunny skies but I'm really looking forward to it all the same.
Gavin Posted October 5, 2011 Author Posted October 5, 2011 Will see you down there...Have no idea what the hot fly is....but I usually depend on terrestrial & caddis dries this time of year. The little gray wispy's should be out too.
ozark trout fisher Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I'm definitely hoping there will be something hatching so I can get them on top. Last time I was down there the dry fly fishing was pretty good, hopefully that will the case again this time.
Members jayhawk6429 Posted October 8, 2011 Members Posted October 8, 2011 Coffee brown rubber leg stonefly has worked well for me the last 2 weekends. I'll be below the Vat tomorrow.
ozark trout fisher Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Coffee brown rubber leg stonefly has worked well for me the last 2 weekends. I'll be below the Vat tomorrow. Good luck. I am afraid the weekend on the Current just ain't happening for me this time...But at least it looks like I'll be getting to the Meramec tomorrow.
Gavin Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 Fishing was a tad slow for us on Saturday. Floated from Baptist down to Parker with lots of folks out on the river...Caught a smallmouth on a spoon, and a trout on big bushy dry fly. Think I only made 50 casts all day long...My wife fished a good portion of the day with a few more fish to show for it...most on nymphs, and one on a jerkbait....Great day to enjoy the Fall colors...too bright and windy to expect much...Need some rain down there.
Members jgentile Posted October 10, 2011 Members Posted October 10, 2011 Definitely and desperately need some rain.... soooo low and clear. I wound up fishing the park and having a blast introducing my wife to fly fishing. She had never dropped a line in her life. Thanks to a few of the other troutbusters there I got her a pair of waders and 5wt. I spent the majority of Saturday watching her drift and strip a crackleback. She caught two and I hope that she is now hooked. Honestly it was more fun watching her trying to set a hook, loose a couple and then finally get two in than fishing myself. All in all a GREAT weekend with some really nice folks. If any of you readers haven't been to a Troutbust, you need to get in on some good times. I believe the next one will be held at Bennett in May.
