Don Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 I met NoLuck at Bennett 09/24/06. We got acquainted and discussed gear and tackle. Apparently he has fished Bennett many times, whereas it was my first flyfishing trip there. He stated he would start with a crackleback. I stated I wanted to try an ugly zebra midge since it has produced well for me at Roaring River as well as Montauk. After inventory, I realized I could not find any in my arsenal, so we had a quick fly tying session and I spun up a couple. NoLuck stated he fishes Zone 2 with success so I followed his cue. I fished deeper water around the bluff area while Rich fished upstream in shallower water. Four hours of fishing yielded exactly 20 fish with most of them caught off of a variety of zebra midges. Most of them had green in them, some with copper. After my white indicator was nailed for the umpteenth time , I threw dries. I'm not very experienced with dries so after approximately one hour I caught one with a small renegade. I threw a size 10 renegade for awhile but no takers. I tied the son of a gun after reading a previous post and man it was one ugly renegade. The bite got cold between 6:30 and 7:05 until I tied on a sculpin olive leech and picked up a couple more until I broke off and the horn sounded. Rich also had a successful afternoon and caught 20-25 fish in the shallow water between the falls and the bluffs, mostly with cracklebacks and a few with midges. Rich, it was a pleasure to meet you and I had a great time. Thanks for your tips and everything else. Post back to let us know how you did on Monday. Thanks again.....Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
NoLuck Posted September 26, 2006 Author Posted September 26, 2006 Don, I was pleased to meet you Sunday afternoon as well.I hope we can get together and do it again sometime. Today(9/25) I met Snow Fly at the pool parking lot. Nice fellow from not to far from my area.It was nice meeting a getting aquainted Snow fly.Hope we can make a trip somewhere in the future too. Today I fished Zones 1 and 2.From the springs on down to the first wing dam then went down to the shallow water below the bridge hole.I started out in the shallows below the bridge this morning and caught 20 or so fish on scuds in orange and olive colors.Orange bead head seemed to work best in a size 16.If the water would come up just a little it would be nice. But,I guess we have to deal with it. In the afternoon after the shadows started I did pretty well on the crackleback in a size 12 sulpher and chartruese size 12 also.Early evening there loooked to be a hatch of light cahills size 16-18 so I tied one on a did pretty well on that too. Line size really seemed critical fishing scuds and midges but not so much on the surface.6-7x was best for scuds. All in all I caught probably close to 45 fish Monday.I lost count at 37 and I went up to my truck at 6:15 p.m. and grabbed my stringer so I could take some fish home for one of my employees.Went back down and fished a crackleback dry in the really fast riffles and caught my limit before 7:00 p.m. and packed up and left. Don and Snow Fly its been a pleasure meeting you guys and I will look for you guys in the future. Take Care. Rich
Snow Fly Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Rich: Enjoyed meeting you at BS and I will let you know about making a day trip this winter like we talked about. Great day to fish just wish they could get some serious rain at BS and the areas that supply BS. Plenty of fish in the rocks in the riffles below the arch bridges and they were after the scuds. No Luck, fishing below me,looked like he was on to them also.Noticed several times that we were hooked up for doubles. Enjoyed the day and maybe we can get a large group together for some good fishing stories. "God gave fishermen expectancy, so they would never tire of throwing out a line"

Kansas Fly Fisher Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 My schedule is a bit funky, to say the least. I work 24 hours and then I'm off for 48 hours. With that said, I'm up for a meet if my schedule allows. Pick a date and I'll see what happens. We're also down a couple of medics and with vacations, it may be a bit hard for me to fit in, but I'll sure try! John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
Snow Fly Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Rich: Let me see if I can come up with something, usually can manage whatever coms up, maybe we can get more than just the two of us like last year. Larry "God gave fishermen expectancy, so they would never tire of throwing out a line"
