Rolan Duffield Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 jOrOb: Should I have dressed the "Disco" fly to look similar to the appearance of a jig (strands laid back) before taking the pic? Would be glad to redo it. Just let me know how you want it to look. Rolan
Don Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Rolan, Thanks for the great photos. It made my sloppy ant look like it was really something. Good looking flies all the way around. Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
jOrOb Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Quite the contrary Roland, you captured the essence of the Disco. It is supposed to be wild and wooley. You good picture taker!! jOrOb "The Lord has blessed us all today... It's just that he has been particularly good to me." Rev MacLean
Steve Smith Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 jOrOb; that Disco fly reminds me of a pattern I tie called a shaggy dog. I don’t tie many because they are a real bugger to put together, and won’t last through many fish. I take light gray marabou using a magic tool, and split thread dub it forward in succeeding layers. If I had a digital camera that takes good close-ups, I’d post a snapshot. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO
Members Griff Posted November 3, 2006 Members Posted November 3, 2006 I think I originated the Disco Bugger. It has 3 great selling points. #1, it's easy to tie, #2, it catches fish, lots of them, #3, it's cheap to tie, uses only 3 materials including hook. Go to Wal-Mart, buy a skein of Disco Yarn in your choice of color, tie it in at bend of hook, you can furl it for a tail if desired, not necessary in smaller sizes. Wrap the yarn forward to tie-off point, stroking fibers back after each wrap. Double or triple strands of yarn for larger sizes. Super easy, super effective.
