Does anyone use or tie Wooly Buggers size 16 and smaller? If so, how successful have they been?

I've been wondering that same thing for the small stream trout.

I've bween wondering that same thing for the small stream trout.

You can't find those sizes in many, if any, fly shops. I am going to add about 12 dozen to my site. I think they would work great on a 4 wt and a small stream.

I do know about a wooly...

But I do to a little size 14 and a 16 sculpin (with small bead chain eyes)...

Around Taneycomo Ive seen little baby sculpins.. in late summer/early fall... seems to be the time of year when I seen them the most (maybe when they hatch)..

Its lite enough to drift under a float.. yet heavy enough to a couple of feet of water

I havent tied to tye anything small than that..

I use the #16's and smaller buggers all the time, on crane, taney Roaring, Bennett

the seem to work everywhere for me, I've kept #14's in the shop for years, but on

occasion will tie some #16's or smaller for a customer, here is the #20 on a TMC 3769

and the #16 on a TMC 5263, or it might be a diachi hook, not sure, but it is a 3X hook

I use them with and with out beads, just depends on how fast I want them to sink, I had

a bit of good luck with some #18 brown buggers on the san juan this year, and just tore them

up on 20's at taney last week

Great photos Tim! With these smaller buggers, do you use a sinking line or a tiny split shot?

I carry an intermediate and a sinking tip for my fly lines, I don't use them all the time, but at Roaring, Crane, Bennett, and some of the other

small creeks I fish they can come in handy, usually a 9' 6X leader and a floating line is all I need, I prefer the soft lead over split shot, but

some type of weight is needed sometimes.

I've tied buggers on a 1/80th or 1/100 oz jigs...my go to fly when fishing is tough...any color will work as long it's black...
