Members FullTiltAngler Posted October 11, 2011 Members Posted October 11, 2011 I received some information stating that the crappie seem to be moving up in the shallows to begin feeding before the transition. Catching them approx 10-12ft deep using chart/silver jigs mainly and with minnows as well but also seeing them along the banks. Am curious if anyone can verify this info. Was thinking about going out and trying to get a limit this weekend. Any info greatly appreciated. Will be fishing Gravois arm around horseshoe bend area.
Guest Buck Creek Mike Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Have a buddy that said he caught quite a few right on brush that he has on his dock which is only about 8' deep right now. I would assume that this weekend they will be "shallower" and hanging on any type of structure you can find.
Members FullTiltAngler Posted October 12, 2011 Author Members Posted October 12, 2011 Thanx for the info. I had thought that the crappie should be moving in for the last big feeding before they scatter and suspend for winter. It's nice to know that out of 63 views on this post that not all the people who fish this area are so insanely secretive about such things. I can chat with people back and forth about Stockton and Table Rock on this forum all the time without issue but when it comes to the LOZ fisherman they act like it's their lake and their info and will not share a thing with you.I thought that was what this forum was all about, fellow fisherman sharing info with fellow fisherman. Thanks again for the feedback Mike and good luck to you in your fishing adventures.

You obviously do not trust the person or persons giving you the original crappie report, and now you are asking for futher info that you can discredit. How do you know that the 63 viewers fish or live at loz, and what makes you think they are crappie fishermen that have fished in the past week? Trust me that anyone on this forum will give correct info and happy to share until they read a comment like this.
junkman Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Ihave viewed it three times now and have never even fished LOZ. But I will be there this weekend and might have to throw a hook in. just like to check up on whats happening out there.
slothman Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 I caught a few around a condo dock this past weekend on jigs. Another guy that was there caught a few on minners. About the 3mm-ish. I only fished for about 30-45 minutes and had four in my bucket. Caught more small ones and bluegill than anything else.
Stoneroller Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 the reason you have that many views is simply because of your title, which makes people want to click on it to see what the rumor is. johnm Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 also not to be confused a lot of fisherman who read and do not reply to your ?s on here may not want to give u an inaccurate reply... accurate replies are far better than assumptions or opinions which may lead you in the wrong direction. i rarely see people being rude purposely on this forum
Bird Watcher Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I fall fished LOZ about 9 years ago up the little Niangua arm. Best I recall, they were holding right underneath the foam on the dock. We were pitching to the back of the stall and letting it swing back. I think we used red and white tube jigs with 1/16th ounce heads. Seems like it was youth deer weekend. I hope this helps. You are welcome.
WHARFRAT Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Can't help you with the Gravois Arm, but was down all last week on the Big Niangua. Had to work hard everyday to catch my limit or close to it. The majority of fish came in the 2-6' range, dipping within or right on docks with brush. Best luck came on Docks in about 15-20' of water and had to have plenty of brush. I could count on one hand how many crappie I caught in open water. They just seemed to be relating to and only to brushy docks. Tried my deep (10-15') brush piles, but nothing but maybe a couple of dinks. Didn't use any live bait, just 2" curly tail, my own tied jigs, or slab buster jigs. 1/16 oz. Caught more dipping straight down than casting. Color seemed to be chart/blk, tried other colors, but this seemed to work more consistantly. Really like the slab busters. Also get some crappie nibs, really seemed to turn on to them. Had better luck with a good chop on the lake. Monday thru Wed of last week was calm and the bite was slower. Not much on size either, most were between 9" and pushing close to 11". Only a couple in the 12" range, nothing bigger. One last thing, I'm an early riser, and in reality I could have slept in an extra hour or two. It was really slow the first hour and a half, but got consistanly better afterwards. Hope that helps! @lozcrappie
