nxs Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Went to Cedar again. Found crappie and whites in first cove we stopped at. Crappie around 12' and whites 8'. Crappie were close to the bottom. Had a few shorts and a couple of keepers when the wind got up and we couldn't stay in there. Fished on up towards High Point and only found short crappie and drum out of the wind. Moved up into Maze in the afternoon and found short crappie and drum out of the wind again. Finally moved over onto the wind side, picked up 4 keeper crappie but by then we had about all the wind we could handle for one day. So 6 crappie for the day and threw back a couple of fair size whites along with some smaller ones. Crappie are all eat'n well! For the most part the crappie hit the minnows better and the whites hit the jigs. Water temp 68* when we got there and still 68* when we left. For those that drive 215 it's open again atleast for a while. I understand they're to close it again about Feb to do the Sac River bridge.
Members Time Killer Posted October 15, 2011 Members Posted October 15, 2011 Thanks for the report! I generally try to avoid windy days but I guess we'll brave it tomorrow. Down around CC it usually isnt as bad as you think it would be, but we'll see! The past couple of weekends We've trolled minnows for crappie, and thrown an assortment of jigs, and havent been able to get hardly a bite with the minnows, but have done well with the jigs, wich is unusual for me. Looking forward on getting down there. I'll post my two cents later!
Gilly Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 We were on Stockton today and as compared to Thursday it was absolutely fantastic. Not even trying to catch them but we got into catfish south of Masters, it was making my wife angry as she hates catfish. A few short crappie, short walleye, pizza and beer for dinner.....but man it was a top ten day! www.drydock516.com
waterpossum Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Put in at CC 2 p.m. yesterday. Water temp 70 at ramp. Water was pretty dirty so I traveled north and water started clearing after about 3 miles. By 5 p.m I was past Birch Branch and water temp was 69. No real pattern established other than most keeper fish (12) were coming in 12' or less. Didn't catch more than 2 on any spot. Using red and chartruse tube jigs. 1/16 oz head. Caught several drum, which seem to be more prolific this year. Beautiful day, lots of boats out, shad all over the lake. Thought I was doing pretty good until I figured I traveled 18 miles yesterday, and that adds up to less than a fish per mile. Anyway Ive got our Sunday meal covered.
nxs Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 waterpossum you sure did better than us. We've been fighting it every since the heat moved in this summer. Dont know if we're not staying with it enough and moving to much or what. I usually don't travel much form where I put in at but motor has been getting a workout lately. Weather permitting maybe can get back up this week.
