Al Agnew Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Yeah, that's the bad thing about late fall/winter smallmouth fishing...the fish don't do the kind of fighting we expect from river smallies in the summer. The good things are that the rivers are beautiful in a quietly different way than they are in the summer, you'll mostly have them to yourself, and the fish you do catch can run a lot bigger than in the summer. Some of us have gotten to where we enjoy winter fishing as much or more than summer fishing for those reasons. But it takes more preparation and some knowledge of cold weather floating.
