Members Wooly Bugger Posted October 17, 2011 Members Posted October 17, 2011 While the springs isn't my favorite place in Missouri (probably on the bottom of my list), I went there today anyway. I couldn't get them to bite on much. I floated cracklebacks and buggers and nymphs and san juans with no takers. It was rather crowded and tough to compete against those with bait and dough balls (and not to mention the leaves and moss). I only fished from the large hole down to the bridge. Does it get better after the bridge? I have never made it past that bridge. ozark trout fisher Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Sorry it didn't go too well. Maramec can definitely be a frustrating place to fly fish . Maybe next time you might try the river below the spring branch. There is pretty good wading in spots and the crowds are not nearly as bad. The trout naturally aren't quite as numerous as in the park but there are still plenty to go around.
rfd515 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 It was gin clear last weekend and pretty crowded, making for pretty lock-jaw fish inside the park. Got a couple on hare's ear soft hackles but had to work hard for em.
ciRe Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 You can wade down river actually pretty far. Like said before it isn't the best fishing but there is basically no crowd. 300 yardsish there is a good hole that is usually good for 3 or 4 fish but that's about it. The fist hole maybe next time you should try stripping in crackle backs fishing up stream.
mic Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Got a couple on hare's ear soft hackles but had to work hard for em. Did they bite on the drift or the swing?
rfd515 Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Did they bite on the drift or the swing? Drift, not far up from the bridge. The water being clear is as much great as it is terrible in a place like that.
