Jack Jones Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Started out about 11 a.m. up near the Twin Falls pool and had no luck at all. Nothing on CJs, Hare's Ears, and only two hook ups on crackleback's between there and the Clearing House pool. At about 1:30 I took a break, then moved to the 2nd show hole where I was taking them in every few casts on Hare's Ear Flashbacks and PT's (both beadhead). Wind was killer though and made casting a little difficult. I ended up with a few wind related birds nests. Nothing of any notable size to speak of. Mostly just normal size stockers in the 11-14" range. Still, was a gorgeous day and had a lot of fun. Olive WB's and Crawdad color WB's worked the best. I caught most of my fish on a wool head rainbow streamer that Ducky Doty gave me last year. It drove them crazy and it's what I caught my biggest 2 fish on. The last hour I switched over to a double midge set up and caught a few. Then I tied on a peach glow ball as a dropper and it was nearly a fish every cast. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Buzz Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 We had a pretty good day. Leonard let my son "help" him land this fish. Nice fish Jasper. I thought Leonard wasn't coming until Monday????? They definitely had a bunch of good fished stocked this year. Much better than last year. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Members jasperflyfisher Posted November 12, 2011 Members Posted November 12, 2011 Thanks. I agree. There are a LOT of big fish in the river. Can't wait until it gets cold and the crowds thin out. Too many people there today. I was worried my wife was going to outfish me. She caught two lunkers in a row before I had any. I ended up landing 3 and quick released another.
Jack Jones Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Buzz ---- I thought about going with a black or olive bugger but for whatever reason, I didn't. What size buggers were you working? ollie Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Buzz, I lost sight of you after I went further upstream to fish the outlets. I caught my biggest of the day upstream from the twin falls at the very first outlet. Measured 20" to the tape, but not nearly as big as some of the others caught today! I have to admit, I never caught anything smaller than 12-13" with most I caught being around the 14-15" range. I thought they did a pretty good job on the stocking this year. I found out the bigger and heavier jig at 1/16th did a better job for me catching today. I only fished two colors. Started out with an olive/brown combo and then switched over to ginger later on. The ginger is what I caught my biggest on. When I got there I started out at the very end of the park down by the old darn. I tore them up down there until I mined out that hole. I also want to say thanks for the lunch! Made for a great day since I didn't have to work! Buzz Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Buzz ---- I thought about going with a black or olive bugger but for whatever reason, I didn't. What size buggers were you working? I was throwing # 8's, but I think bigger would have been better. They were definitely chasing all day. Any baitfish type of fly would have worked too. I heard they were hitting white wooly buggers also. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

I had a third on until I knocked the fly out of it's mouth trying to net it. I think I need a bigger net. It's good your wife gave you the motivation to fish harder. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
