Does anyone have any thoughts on Bass Pro's Heat rods? I just looked at them in a store and kind of liked their feel. They are heavier weight rods and I was looking at the 8 weight for bass bug fishing. They are all 7 foot 10 inch four piece rods and sell fo $99.99. Their web site has five reviews and all are "good".

Thanks,

Dave

I think they look pretty good and would bet they are just as good as the Sage Bass series. It looks like a good rod for knocking around on a back country wetlands and/or creek trip to me. Throw a Lamson Konic on there and you will be all set.

I played with one a BPS the other day, and with the Sage, I can't tell too much of a difference. All of my fly Rods are from BPS and I never have problems, I did have one break, had it for 3 years...they still replaced it even when the warranty was only a year. I will probably pick up one as part od my tax return present, the other part of it is a new pontoon :-)

Last time I was at BPS they had the Redington Crosswaters Rod/Reel Combo in a 9' 8wt on sale for $99. I've heard good things. May want to check that out too.

I had a chance to cast one of those a while back (the Crosswater). I liked it. The only way I can describe it is that it is a "good strong" moderate fast action rod. I think all of Redington's stuff is good. I have been interested in the predator rods (better price than the sage bass rods, but higher than the heat rods); they have added some more models to that line up, they must be a decent seller. I will never Knock the BPS rods though, one of my favorites is my White River classic (one of only three rods I own now as I have cut down on my quiver), great stick

I have a 6 wt Predator. I throw a SA 7/8 wt bass taper line on it and can throw meaty rabbit strip streamers with ease. I love the rod. I did break it while casting on my first trip with it, but it was pretty late at night/early in the morning on a gravel bar on an overnighter so I will just say it was my fault. BUT, they didn't charge me to replace the broken section and upgraded my rod tube that had a broken zipper also. Their customer service is tops.

I also have a 9wt Crosswater outfit. My only gripe with it is the Rio Mainstream line that comes with it.

I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted.
