If this is duplicate information, my apologies. There have been discussions about banning felt soles for quite some time. For those who have not been following the MDC publications, it is apparently a done deal.

The Missouri Conservation Commission has approved a regulation change banning the use of porous-soled waders or footwear incorporating or having attached a porous sole of felted, matted, or woven fibrous material when fishing in trout parks and other specific trout waters. Pending public comment through the Secretary of State’s office, the new regulation will go into effect March 1, 2012, the opening day of catch-and-keep fishing at Missouri’s four trout parks. I look in my fly box and think about what should guide my choice of the best fly: the amount/angle of sun on the water, the water temp & clarity, what bugs are hatching, what the fish might be eating, and what worked last time. Then I remember what an old man told me... " Ninety percent of what a trout eats is brown, fuzzy, about 1/2 inch long and underwater."

Yeah, we beat this to death a few months ago when they passed it.

But I clicked on your link and it said "page not found." I STILL don't know what "other specific trout waters" are. Does anyone know?

Yeah, I know there was a lot of discussion, but everything at that time came with the caveat "pending public discussion/responses".

Now they are not even hedging their comments - just saying it is effective 3/1/12 - so I thought this was a "final" ruling.

I tried the link I had and also got the "page not found" - not sure why, I copied the link directly from the MDC website.

I will try copying it again and pasting t into this posting - see if this works better.....

Link works now, but it still doesn't mention what "other specific trout waters" means. It would help their cause tremendously if people knew where the felt is banned.

I wasn't aware of this BAN comming down the pike....just bought a nice pair of Korkers about 14 months ago (no not the interchangable soles). The only river/stream I fish is the white river in Ar. Does Ar. have a BAn on felt as well?

I looked on the Arkansas Fish and Game website and do not see anything regarding banning felt soles.

I recommend you check with a local warden or agent to get confirmation and avoid anunecessary fine.

FYI - my brother was just down on the White in Arkansas and they do NOT have a ban on felt.

Unfortunately, they also have Didymo (rock snot) established from the dam downstream quite a ways.
