Does anyone know where I can find a good map of Missouri's National Forests that lays out what land is private and what is public?

They sell the maps at any of their offices.

Thanks. I saw those online, but could find an example. Do they delineate public vrs private? Do you which type is best?

  • USGS Topographic Maps - Scale of these maps is approximately 2.4 inches per mile. There are 168 Topographic Maps covering the Mark Twain National Forest
  • Forest Visitor Maps - at 1/2"=one mile scale, depict entire Ranger Districts. A set of four Forest Visitor Maps covers all six administrative units. Maps are sold at the Supervisor's Office and at all District Offices.
  • Motor Vehicle Use Maps - shows the roads and trails that are open to vehicular traffic. This map contain only roads information, with limited key features.
  • Site and Activity Maps - Single purpose providing information about that site or activity.

The forest visitor maps are upto date and show private property. The MTNF is a patchwork of parcels and you can end up on private property very easily.

The road maps only show which roads are open to the public.

The ONCRC in Salem http://oncrc.org/ has expired visitor maps free.
