How is everyone doing so far? I have shot 6 does and one 9 pointer. All were bow kills but the buck. Shot it with my muzzleloader. I passed him up during gun season hopefully for something bigger.

Our group had fairly good bow/rifle season. Ended up with 3 does and 4 bucks, one buck was a real nice 10 shot the weekend before rifle season. I was hoping to get one more bow hunt in this year but its not looking good.

ciRe, I got a question for you. When you cap a buck you are mounting, where do you cut off the neck from the body?

I usually do it right at the ribs. I look at it this way. Better to give the taxidermy too much than not enough. They really only need right past the legs though. You can tell where I started in this picture.

I read that question wrong. I cut it off about 4-6" before the ears. All I do is take a knife cut around the meat and then hack saw it until I start hearing a lot of pops then I start twisting the head until it pops off. Just don't do what my uncle did and drop the head and break an antler off on one of his. The taxidermist was able to fix it at least. Next time you shoot a mounter send me a message on the forum. I'll come over and help being we are both in StL. I had a group of girls walk by and they thought it was the most nasty thing ever

Thanks for the advice, hopefully I get to use it next year. I get those sort reactions from most of my nieghbors, especially when their kids start coming out to check out what I brought home.

You guys ever had any luck at any of the Conservation Areas, up to an hour away from stl, or do you guys keep to your or someone's private property?
