binman Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Put in at Indian ran up toward the dam about 1 mile and a half or so first dock I hit I went all the way in the empty slip I had a limit of fish in less than 30 minutes!! Five keeper smallies and a keeper Lm also a keeper Kentucky. I had a 19in smallie and two that were 17in my partner caught a 18 1/2 in smallie. The Lm and ky was the smallest they just stretched the 15 in mark. My fish were all caught on a spoon. It was a great trip to top off 2011 and my birthday!!! Brandon Inman

Fish for ones birthday are always good ! I caught fish in all the empty slips there was 4 or 5 that I fished on the same dock. I was dropping the spoon right next to the boat in the corners of the stahl face. I was never in any thing less than 28 ft. of water that's where the bite ended. The fish would hit the spoon from 10 ft.- the bottom when the spoon would hit the bottom I would let it sit instead of moving it they seemed to hit the bait when it was not moving if they didn't hit it on the way down. It might work still might not I think I was at the right place at the right time I fished the same pattern all day after 10 am I never got another bite!! So if you try might start early. That's the crazy thing about that. Fish several slips and nothing, go to the next slip and wear your arm off. Catch so quick that your partner can do nothing but either net or hold the boat up to the dock by the supports to keep the boat from rubbing. That's why I keep those small gunwale docking protectors in the boat. All it takes is one time for someone to see how to bust them on a dock and their hooked too. It can be fast and furious esp with a school of them. Also, I respect people's property floating on the water when pitching spoons around boats. I try to think that it is my sled floating where I'm pitching. You can even pick up the occasional jack or slab crap around docks. I measured a 15" crap 2 yrs ago on a dock over deep water up the James arm. Sorry folks no pics on that one. It went back in. My left arm gets cramps in it after a few hours of docks. But I wouldn't recommend this for anyone, as your boat or motor has the potential for getting beat up if your not careful.
binman Posted January 14, 2012 Author Posted January 14, 2012 I did put some scratches in the fiberglass on my top coat from it going under the dock in the hurricane winds!!! It did not bother me I bought a older bass boat to fish out of not too sit in the water and look pretty!!! If you can run a trolling motor you can fish docks all day and never bump in to the dock. You get in there bro. Don't let TR winds bother you or push you up against somebodies outboard in a slip. Things happen fast when you fool a toad around a dock and your by yourself. You tend to forget about gelcoat long enough to rub. I take some pride in my sled. But it's your ride, do what you want with it. Best foot man on a front deck can't predict everything, never say never it's too absolute.
