Gavin Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Looking for a good hush puppy recipe with some jalepeno's in it...gravel bar friendly, dutch oven fryable preferred.
Chief Grey Bear Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I am assuming you know how to make hushpuppies???? Thought so. Now just add jalepeno's. Either finely chopped or sliced. You can make hushpuppies in any vessel as long as you add enough oil. And depending on the size of the hushpuppy you desire. Any basic recipe will work. Just add what you like. Finely chopped onion. Chopped Jalepeno's. You can also add about 1 TBS or 2 of the brine from a can or jar of Jalepeno's. Red pepper flakes. Shredded cheese. Just about anything you can think of. Gavin Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 No Chief...dont know how to make hush puppy's...A bud of mine was over to borrow a canoe this afternoon and he asked me if I had a hush puppy recipe for his gravel bar dinner responsibility next Weekend...Too much prep for me, but I'll let him do it.....Some great suggestions..Will forward. Thanks!
Chief Grey Bear Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 The best thing to do is either mix all dry ingredients before the trip and place in a ziplock bag, then add the wet when you are ready to cook or just buy a couple of packages, or how ever many you think you will need, and mix when ready. Now I would still prepare some onion and jalepeno and place in seperate ziplock bags and toss in the cooler. Or if you have a small cutting board just take a onion and some canned jap's. They are easily prepared creek side. Members creekin bassnerd Posted January 3, 2012 Members Posted January 3, 2012 This is what I like to do with huspuppies, great for 2 to 3 people. 1/2 cup cornmeal 1/4 cup flour 1/2 onion chopped 1 egg salt and pepper jalepeno-optional whole corn-optional moisten with beer, but not too much, if you add too much beer just add more of the other stuff as well
Members creekin bassnerd Posted January 3, 2012 Members Posted January 3, 2012 also if you dip your spoon in the hot oil before you scoop one out of the mix, it will slide off your spoon into the oil perfectly and you wont have to force it off the spoon and screw up the cohesion. Enjoy!
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 A box of Jiffy, some finely chopped onions and a can of green Chili's. Making sure the oil is hot enough and you have enough heat to maintain it is 70% of the battle. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
