Members jdixon Posted January 15, 2012 Members Posted January 15, 2012 Looking for a little help from people that have fished alaska. I am planning a trip for next year and looking do do it for a reasonable price, don't need all the fancy stuff just going for the fishing. I have read this board and looked at Naknek and epic angeling adventure. I really like the outpost at Epic, love the idea of getting away from everything and wade fishing smaller streams. We would like to go earlier in the year and throw streamers and dries for rainbows and grayling. I have looked on the internet at some places just figured I would check on this board to get feedback about places to check out from people that have gone. reasonable price $4000 if the right place but would like to go for less. thanks
duckydoty Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 I have been to Naknek and even guided there for 2 years. For the price, they have alot to offer. Nice little greyling stream call Idavaine Creek. It can have some good bows in it also. Caint beat Brooks River for dry fly and streamer fishing in June for monster bows. Margot creek is in the area too. Great little fishery. And of course, the smolting rainbows in June on the Naknek are incredible. 32 inch bows running in packs like wolves, crushing the smolt. I just dont see how you can beat the fishing oportunities for the price. Might check into some stuff in Wood Tick-Chick State Park in western Alaska. watermen Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 You'd have to be more specific as to your interests, salmon vs trout. The boss on here is very adept and gaining alot of varied experience on the Naknek region. I here he's finally going in Sept. for the big bows and soon will be up in april for the really hot fishing with all the honyaks doing boat work. There are alot of options for your price range in varying degrees of comfort. Timing is everything with anadramous fish make sure you book at the right time. My favorite of the bristol bay watershed is the togiak system. Bigger and more fish with less people as of 6 or 7 years ago. Good luck in your quest and let me know if I can help you with timing or other crucial elements. It's a fun trip. Good luck
