Hey guys, planning on going to the lir this weekend. The most recent posts sound encouraging.

Does anyone have any feel for what generation has been like lately? Is it possible to fish while they are generating 1 or 2 units?

Thanks a ton,

Jason

This is such a small tailwater. I've never had a lot of success when they are generating because the water comes up fast and high. There are a few places that you can fish when the water is on, but again, it's tough to fish. Check the schedule as they usually hold to it. Also, once they stop generation, the water will fall out in about 30 to 60 minutes.

Thanks DaddyO.

We are going to be getting there about 2 on Friday and leaving at 1:30 on Saturday. Looks like they have been holding off generating until 5 or later so I"m hoping we'll be good on Friday and Saturday looks like we might get a couple hours mid morning.

Being such a short trip, I'm still going to try to find a way to have a line in the water when they are running ;)

Any hot patterns up there right now? I read olive Woolly's, black and red Zebra Midges. Anything else I should have tied up?

Thanks!

I went Monday and I fished the east side of the island near the gravel parking lot. I had good success on black zebra midge size 18, 18-24 inches below my indicator. I didn't try any other flies because this seemed to work. It was sooooo windy. i'm glad I brought my 5wt to compensate for the wind. Good Luck Jason. I'm headed out Sunday.

Jason,

Get some 1/80th jig head hooks from Bass Pro. Using Red Thread. Tie medium sized Yellow Chenille from the lead head to the hook point. Then wrap the Chenille, in touching turns, back to the lead head and tie it off. Do the same thing with Hot Pink Chenille and again with White Chenille. Tie up a half dozen of each color. Use these as your anchor and tie a small midge or soft hackle on about 6 inches of tippet off of the hook. Use an indicator. You should be successful.

I'm gonna try to go down Saturday Morning. Maybe I'll see you down there. I'll be driving a blue Ford Sportrac.

Thanks Esteban! I have plenty of zebra's tied up ready to hook'um!

Sounds great daddyO. I have a dozen of those jigs tied up in olive with a marabou tail. We use these a ton down on the LMF with huge sucsuss. I'll try to get some tied up in pink and white as well.

We'll be in a grey Hyundai Tucson. I'll be in a green jacket wearing green and grey waders. Just holler at us if you see me and we'll do the same.

Weather looks great too!

Thanks for the info gents. Last time I fished the LIR it was 100+ degrees, fishless, and I hooked myself pretty good in the shoulder. I love the area and I'm looking forward to changing my luck this time. Anyone have a suggestion on a good camping spot?

Camping options are either Marval Trout Camp or Strayhorn Landing. Marval and Fin-n-Feather Resort both have cabins as well.

Good luck!
