Members joe2011 Posted January 18, 2012 Members Posted January 18, 2012 I usual tie smaller flies that I can throw with my 5 wt. I Tie alot of mini wooleys and take some of these patterns and just tie them smaller. My question is How small can you tie like the zoo courger or peanut envy flies ect. I usual tie my mini wooleys like on size 12 and sometime a size 10. Thanks for the imput
Jason R. Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 You really do not have to go too small with zoo cougars as they are weightless and single hook- I bet you could toss most any sized cougar on your five weight- maybe not 80 feet, but enough to fish it. The peanut envy would be kinda cool as a small fly i guess- its really just a big articulated woolly bugger. Try woolly sculpins too- its a really effective pattern and has no weight. Only problem with those bugs with deer hair heads is that you need a sinking line to get them down and throwing a sinking line on a five weight is not all that fun. http://flyinthesouth.com/
