Hi guys, I'm going to Wyoming this year as a fishing guide on a Dude Ranch and want to buy a nice camera to take with me. Not only for my own memories, but also to provide pictures to my clients.

So here's my question. Would it be better to have a more manageable Point n Shoot or have a bigger one with interchangeable lenses? I have used both and personally prefer the manual focus. I would just go ahead and buy that for sure but I'm scared that it's a bit too big and I won't be able to find a water proof pack for it.

I'm looking at the Nikon D3100 in particular.

Any suggestions?

Zach, I haven't really found good protection for a dslr. A small dry bag works but you won't use a camera that you can't get to easily. Mine rides on my cooler in the canoe most of the time but I wouldn't recommend that. There are some very good water proof point and shoots on the market that would be a good choice. Olympus has a good product and Nikon just came out with one.

If you want the features of a dslr but the small compact size start looking at the 2/3 cameras like the Nikon One. Not waterproof but a compact size.
