Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted September 15, 2006 Root Admin Posted September 15, 2006 Fished from 11:15 pm to 12:45 am. 1 cars at outlet 1 lot and 6 cars in the main parking lot so there were a few out fishing. Started at the midstream rock above Big Hole and moved down to Big Hole as I casted. Used a variety of streamers- Leonard's leaches and sculpin patterns mainly in black, small, unweighted woolies- black and white. I used white at Leonard's suggestion and caught one rainbow. Caught another small rainbow on a leach. That's all the hole would yield last night- 2 each- just like Leonard and Jeff. Missed 10 strikes in 90 minutes of fishing- some quick and hard and some soft. Saw 2-3 very large browns jump last night along with some smaller ones... so it is starting. I tried lots of different retrieves... the best was short quick strips with a 5 second pause- they'd hit it on the pause. Most strikes came on the pause- when the fly either wasn't moving or swinging. Nice to meet you Jeff- hope to see you Leonard again soon.

Members Jeff House Posted September 18, 2006 Members Posted September 18, 2006 Just got back to work where I have computer access ( my computer desk at home was retrofitted into a fly tying desk and the computer sits in the closet!)and wanted to give a big thanks to Leonard for taking my friend and I out last Thursday at Taney. From showing me his most productive night spots to giving us some of his killer fly patterns to use and giving us pointers on retrieves he really made the trip a great learning experience. I would guess that I personally caught 20- 25 fish in the 3 1/2 hours we fished, this far exceeded my previous nighttime trips with the flyrod. Even more important to me than the fish caught was the time he spent instructing us on the different methods he uses at night and the behavior habits of the trout at night(which is totally different than during day time hours). I would not hesitate to reccomend Leonard to anyone interested in learning the intricacies of nighttime flyfishing on Taney. Thanks again Leonard.
