mic
Does anyone use a blue scud with success? What is the recipe? I've been reading how blue is a target color for trout and the success of the patriot and the blueberry egg. Just like to tie a couple and give them a try. Jack Jones
Never tried blue. I've tried pink, orange, and olive. I haven't had too much success with orange or olive. Pink did okay. I imagine you would just follow the regular scud recipe you could find anywhere and use a blue dubbing for the body. Maybe through some flash in there. Scuds as a rule tend to chameleon themselves to the color of the riverbeds their in so I've mostly fished grey or tan. However, fishing experience always tells us that if something looks different, them fish will check it out. Are you thinking dark blue, light blue, aquamarine? mic
Are you thinking dark blue, light blue, aquamarine? I realize your kidding, but the patriot uses a "smolt blue CF" for the body. The blueberry is recipe calls for dying egg yarn because the author couldn't find what he waned. Both are a lighter blue. I thought about all blue, blue for the scud back, or a blue wire for the ribbing. I like to try my standards in tandem with a new bug to see if it makes a difference. I would also like to read the actual report if anyone knows where it is. Hell, it probably will not work, but.... it might... then I get to name it
esox niger
I've seen some talk lately of blue carp flies being productive on certain waters....if not all blue go 1/2 blue 1/2 normal color or go normal color with blue uv ice dub...etc etc. I'd bet it will work, if its the right size...thats at least half the battle. Jason R.
I have used blue wire on my normally colored scuds and it seems to work well. No scientific testing, just pure speculation. http://flyinthesouth.com/
