Jack Jones Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 No worries, I like your sense of humor that I've seen in the forum. "Thanks to Mother Mercy, Thanks to Brother Wine, Another night is over and we're walking down the line" - David Mallett
Trout Commander Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 No worries, I like your sense of humor that I've seen in the forum. He's not nearly as annoying to fish with. He actually kinda grows on you. They aren't canoes, but Diablo kayaks are arguably the best one man fly fishing oriented vessels out there. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. Justin Spencer Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Flyfishing out of a canoe solo is a good way to decide to quit fly fishing! I try it about once a year and get frustrated and don't catch much. The only boat I have successfully fly fished out of (and it still takes practice) is a pontoon, and they aren't built for speed. I'm hoping these larger stabler kayaks such as the Coosa will allow me to stand, and maybe by adding a short drag chain (not during spawns) I hope to get it to track without paddling. If you haven't tried fly fishing from a boat much I would try it a few times in different crafts and decide where your money is best spent. And depending on what rivers and how often you float sometimes it is just best to rent. I have sold many canoes to people who come back for shuttles, have to mess with hauling a boat down here and still pay over half a canoe rental just to have me shuttle them. May pay off in the long run if they float alot, or if you float streams not serviced by outfitters, or have friends with their own boats so you can shuttle each other, but most times it just looks like a big hassel, and everytime I float I am tempted just to call another outfitter to take care of me! Wayne SW/MO Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 If you're set on flyfishing out of a boat on the rivers, a flat bottom jon would be hard to beat, especially when you can get Cricket to do all the control.. Well unless you can afford a drift boat. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
woodman Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Cricket, that one was more economics than anything at the time...besides I've done well with that little car, especially on gas. FishinCricket Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 It still takes two to tango.... Nah, a 16 ft John is awesome for solo trips.. the only reason I need two people is for the shuttle and the conversation... And only one of those is required! cricket.c21.com
