Members buffresources Posted March 5, 2012 Members Posted March 5, 2012 Maybe I'm asking too much I don't need GPS as I have a garmin I want the lowest priced locator that will show brush piles in about 20-30 ft B/W or color doesn't matter screen size? finally, and this really shows I'm a novice at this, is there a way to find these while sitting still? here is what I've found in my limited experience: My GPS can get me in the general area... around 10ft of the pile (a 10 ft circle, that is)... and then, when I used my friends fish locator, I can see the brush as I move over it, but only as I'm passing over it, however slowly. So now how to get back to it?...again the GPS...same senerio all over again. I finally "drag" the area with jig until I "feel" the brush. is there anything better? am I not doing this right? thanks
Feathers and Fins Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Define cheap? If you are wanting to locate and fish brush piles there are units for around 500 bucks that will do it for you. Below that dollar amount you are taking a gamble on the unit. Also in you have to understand the cone of most fish finders is about 9ft and the closer to center of the cone the better the image will appear. This is why it is currently impossible to tell the exact size of a fish on a sonar. That being said there are finders with larger cones patterns in the water but as you widen a beam it does degrade the image quality on the bounce back. If you are wanting to be able to pinpoint a brush pile on gps and fish finder I suggest getting a quality fish finder with lake insight. Yes its not what you asked but it is honestly the best way. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
