vonreed Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I went down to the Barker hole today and didn't see much caught. I talked to a lady who said she caught 2 yellow perch using worms, which I thought was interesting. Talked to a freind who was down below Barker Hole and he said the whites were being caught consistently down that way. I made my way up to the dam about 6:30 and fished till almost 8:00. I caught 1 short walleye and missed another. A guy next to me caught 1 short and 1 legal walleye and had a couple more hits. I gotta give the guy a big thank you though. He gave me his 20inch walleye before leaving, which was a blessing. I never had anybody offer up a walleye before. The water had no current, but it did rise a little for about an hour, after that it dropped and the moon came out and the bite died of course.

I have started fishing in forsythe area in last year, instead of stockton, and still learning where to fish. Where is the "Barker Hole"? I LOVE white bass fishing! I tried beaver creek a last week on that saturday it was 70 degrees, went down Slough Hollow road, then an offroad that goes into the fields and up the creek a ways. There must have been 30 people there fishing, no one catching anything but claiming that earlier that morning they were. Anyways, any tips on where to go to catch some whites would be much appreciated!
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 5, 2012 Root Admin Posted March 5, 2012 http://www.ozarkanglers.com/bull-shoals/maps/ They aren't the best maps... I created them years ago and need to update (like I have time!!). But they do show the holes.

The road is about where you start rise on 160/76 east of Shadow Rock. There's a two track to the right, but it's steep at the end and it's not always wise to go down. I haven't been down it in a couple of years so proceed at your own risk. The Whites will eventually be in Beaver and Swan, but they will start lingering around the Pothole before that. It shouldn't be long. You might also want to watch the generation at Table Rock. Catching always seems to stop when the flow does in the Pothole. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

I was going to ask whereabouts to get there. I fish from bank 99% of time, so know where you can get to the water is 1/2 the battle. was gong to ask if using snow white roostertails was still working, or is there a different lure working better for Whites right now?

I would think Rooster tails would work. Swimming minnows are very popular in the area, smoke, purple, white and chartruese are good colors, especially smoke. I haven't talked to anyone who has caught any whites around the pothole. I doubt they would be up there in any numbers yet though. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members walker04 Posted March 5, 2012 Members Posted March 5, 2012 ...I doubt they would be up there in any numbers yet though. You are probably right, but when I get a jones for fishing...I will plop out a $10 swimming pool in my backyard and hit it, knowing there isn't ANY fish at all. Alright, not really, but kinda close. Thanks for the insight! So...what is this "pothole" i keep hearing about? Now that I know the bend that is referred to as Barkers hole, where in is the pothole located from there?
vonreed Posted March 5, 2012 Author Posted March 5, 2012 The white bass were being caught just below the Barker Hole from what I was told which is very hard to get to when fishing by the bank. I wouldn't even know how to tell you to get there, as I'm not real familiar with names of roads and such in that area. The Pothole is the spot just below Powersite dam.
Members walker04 Posted March 6, 2012 Members Posted March 6, 2012 Well I think I have been well educated enough to begin some serious fishing there, cant wait! Thank you all for informing me! I will report back my success as the spring moves on!
