Members Kevin B. Posted March 10, 2012 Members Posted March 10, 2012 Any recommendations for decent paddle-up/float-down trips that don't require a shuttle? With the spring weather warming up, I'm looking to get the kayak out a bit and the Elk is close enough to make it worth the drive for a quick trip. I tried the area around Mt. Shira access last summer, but thought I'd check in here and see if there were any suggestions. hoglaw Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 You could put in at the Pineville public ramp and paddle up the B.S. if you wanted to I guess. I'm sure you could paddle up and float back from just about any of the access. Also, the lake at Noel is as good a place as any to just paddle around and fish, but why not pay Wacky Worm to ride with you and take your car back to his place, or to leave your kayak at his place and have him follow you to the take out then make the turn-around? He's always charged me a very fair rate and you might as well do it right.
woodman Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 That is when it would be nice to have the wind at you're back to help push you up stream... http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
Justin Spencer Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Skip a few meals at McDonalds and spend that money so you can have a nice worry free day on the river, some things are worth the cost! Wayne SW/MO Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 you can paddle up from Oklahoma, but Ollie had problems with vandals at the put-in/take-out. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members Kevin B. Posted March 11, 2012 Author Members Posted March 11, 2012 It's not a problem with paying for the shuttle (although I am admittedly cheap), its more of a "Hey, its a nice day and if I get going now, I can probably get in a couple of hours" issue. Arranging a shuttle requires planning ahead...not necessarily my greatest strength. "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. ollie Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Unless you know someone with private access you are going to have to do the MDC access points or pay someone like Russ. I only know of two places that aren't private, but I wouldn't say on here.
