Goggle-Eyed Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Went to the river Saturday and did "okay". We put in at Prosperine and ended up motoring all the way up to the Bridge piers then fished our way back down. The water is really starting to clear up and the leaves were already becoming a problem in the slack water. We did manage to catch a couple of nice smallies and several nice large mouths. I am not sure why but my last few trips on the area above Prosperine I have caught more Large Mouths than in years past. We got a late start and didn't get in the water until about 10:00am. First fish came on a white Buzz Bait about 10 minutes into the day, after I set the hook I realized it was not the fish I expected, it was an 8" goggle-eye. This is the third goggle-eye I have caught on a buzz bait. I threw the Buzz bait for about 30 minutes and never got another hit. I then decided to go back to the basics and started throwing a Case magic stick, t-rigged. The fishing was okay, and the best bait was the magic stick in Watermelon Red. totals: 1 15" smallie, 2 13" smallies, numerous little ones. 4 LM over 14", 2 LM over 12" and a couple of goggle-eyes. Members GotaFish Posted September 22, 2006 Members Posted September 22, 2006 Also fished the Niangua on Saturday the 16th and part of Sunday the 17th. Weather on Saturday was awesome and the water in the river was very low and very clear. Caught a few fish on Saturday, goggle-eye and bass, but nothing of any real size. It was just a great day to be on the river. Sunday on the other hand was a different story it started raining about 8:00 a.m. and didn't stop until we got off the river about 2:00 p.m. Thought the rain would turn the fish on, but it didn't seem to help. Biggest fish of the trip were a 17 inch largemouth and one 15 inch smallmouth.
