Daveinozark Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 once the whites decide to start running, I'm wanting to take the wife and kids fishing from the bank. Where are the best spots to do that? I've been to Blunks before and that may be the place, but is there better bank fishing over at McCords or around Galena with-out any bush wacking? Also, the kids are small so they're used to the worm/bobber set-up. Does this work well for whites or does someone recommend a different set-up for the kids?
Members Osage Posted March 21, 2012 Members Posted March 21, 2012 You might go check out the Shoals Motel people. You can drive your vehicle in there and bank fish. That'll put you 1 1/2 miles or so above Blunks, or a mile above Taylors. JRO/COX Access Shoals Motel Blunks/Taylors That's about it. You can bail off down the cliff and walk/slide down to the cave hole. Might not be a good time with your wife and kids to do that. That whole area is going to be under 10 to 15 feet of water here in the next 24 hours.
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 You might consider Shadow Rock park in Forsyth, very kid friendly bank and a playground to keep them busy, when they get bored, and you continue to fish. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Daveinozark Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 i may have to check out the Shoals motel, thanks for the suggestion. Yeah, with the rain, I'm waiting to hear from folks on when the run starts how about the bait question for the kids? Wayne, never been to the Taneycomo for whites, is that a run spot there too?

That would be Bull Shoals and there is a good run. There is also some good friendly bank space at Beaver creek, but with the rain, etc. Swan will remain fishable longer. To get to Shadow Rock simply drive through Forsyth on 160 and continue down the hill to the junction of 160 and 76, 3 way stop, continue a 100 feet or so and turn left and then left again. All this will be obvious after you cross the bridge over Swan, Shadow Rock will be to your left and right. Lots of bank space, playground, sheltered picnic tables and bathrooms, what's not to like with kids and wife. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Dutch Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Dave I'd put some 1/32 or 1/16 oz jigs under the bobbers for the kids instead of worms.
Daveinozark Posted March 22, 2012 Author Posted March 22, 2012 thanks Dutch, I was thinking of some small minnow imitators instead of worms. I have them with a slip bobber set-up but I think that should work
Fishslayer88 Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 buy some minnows hook them through the lips, great for bobbers.
Daveinozark Posted March 22, 2012 Author Posted March 22, 2012 i would, but my youngest would probably cry over that. she has a hard time seeing a worm get it
