straw hat Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Ran to the lake for a couple hours last night and fished a steep rock bank in the CC area. It was cloudy and chilly but managed to find the crappie around 12' deep. Nailed 16 before it got to dark. Water temp was still a little low, 52. Well this made us pretty excited about today. Got up early and hit the same bank. In the morning before the wind came up we got 16 crappie, a 3 lb channel and one nice white. In the afternoon they sure did shutdown. Only caught one more keeper crappie and finally called it quits around 4 PM. The fish were deeper today, 12 to 20'. Hopefully with a few warm daays they will come back up shallow again.
Nwtf gobbler Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Great report Straw Hat. I haven't been up there in a couple months. Planning on making a trip this friday to look for some crappie. Not sure where to take the boat to. Any suggestions? Thanks (thunderin gobbler. I had to change my screen name)
straw hat Posted March 26, 2012 Author Posted March 26, 2012 Good to hear from you again. I am going to check out two more spots tomorrow, one near Ruark and one near Hartley. I think spawning will just be getting started by Friday around CC. I know a few people caught some spawners north of CC where the water wasn't cooled (and muddied) as much by the incoming water from Big Sac. I will post how I do on these other two areas including water temp. Maybe that will help you decide where to hit on Friday.
Members sundevil Posted March 26, 2012 Members Posted March 26, 2012 What is meant by the Cc area? Thanks!
Hunter91 Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 That is the area around the greenfield access off of Hwy CC.

No crappie but did manage to pick up one 15 1/2" smallie in 18' of water. Water temp was 54. Went to Maze creek, still dingy with a water temp of 54. Hit a cove about 1 mile from Ruark. 54 degrees, caught 1 spawning crappie but couldn't find any others on the bed yet. My best suggestion is still the CC area. They have been running just off the points in slightly deeper water. Wish I could be of more help. Good luck and let us know how you do.
Nwtf gobbler Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Thanks Straw Hat. Looks like I will be going to CC friday if the wind is not too bad. There are a fee coves I wanna hit for crappie, and then I may do some bass fishing. Might be a quick trip, i gotta get ready for our youth turkey hunt this Weekend. Taking 23 kids this year.
