Members clf989s Posted March 25, 2012 Members Posted March 25, 2012 Thursday - Fished out of Cedar Ridge from 9am to 1pm. Caught 10-12 that ranged 13-17 inches in Morgans Buttoms and Turkey Creek. All were caught on a wart in 4-8 fow. 54 degrees. Friday - Launched from Ruark around 2pm and fished till 6pm. Mainly fished the Eakins jig starting in the back of the creeks east of the ramp. Didn't catch as many as Thursday, but did find this nice female in 4 or 5 feet of water. Forgot my scale, but she was 20.5 inches and had a nice belly on her. Saturday - Fished out of Mutton with the wife. Didn't catch a lick. I blame it on the barking dogs in the boat. However talked to quite a few at the ramp and seems they had similar luck. I'm sure it was the nice weather, but the boat traffic is certainly starting to pick up. Every spot we went to already a boat or two on it. Anyone else have any luck today???
Members Dollar Bill Posted March 25, 2012 Members Posted March 25, 2012 That's some good info there, thank you! I'm going later today and will let ya know how it comes out. Is this fun or what!
Members OnPlane Posted March 25, 2012 Members Posted March 25, 2012 Fished the USA Bassin' Tourney out of Old State Park Saturday. 30 boats or so..and a lot of limits. Looked to be mostly "swimmers" but a few had some dandy Large Mouth. I think a little over 7 lbs. was BIG BASS. Caught a lot of fish all over lake, just no big bite for us. Looked like a lot of boats on the lake...(maybe looked that way to everybody else...but it was probably just us trying to find a big un...LOL) Slow moving baits worked best for us...but the water temp says they should eat something on the power side. Jigs probably would hold the best chance of catching bass, but maybe small. Good luck
Members Allen R. Posted March 26, 2012 Members Posted March 26, 2012 I fished USA Bassin' as well, and yes, it was tough everywhere. I spent most of my time in the clearest stuff, and saw two 3lb smallies surface near my boat in 25 ft of water on two different spots. The fish in my area were just cruising around and weren't on the bottom. The only thing I could get bit on was a jerkbait. We managed to get 4 keepers, but it didn't come easily. Hopefully the rain will pick up, I'm still surprised the jig bite has been so off.
Nwtf gobbler Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Just a question for you tournament guys, or Anybody really... I haven't really done much fishing this time of the year, always too busy with turkey season coming. I've always been able to have good luck throwing a texas-rigged worm later in the spring/summer. Would it do any good To throw right now? I am planning on going friday to look for crappie but may do some bass fishing too. May have to try out my A-rig a little too.
Members Allen R. Posted March 27, 2012 Members Posted March 27, 2012 My thought on that is the worm is probably the most versatile bait and can be fished any time of the year. I will say with all the rock banks on Stockton, I'd probably be throwing a jig more often right now, but once the fish pull out, I opt for a worm.
