"Quick, somebody get the tarp, I got a biggun'!"

Great fish, bet that was fun, what did you get him on?

Others will frown upon me but I am no fly fishing purist. For the catfish, I throw dogfood in the water and then once I see a couple of the catfish coming up to the top, I cast out my dogfood fly. It is simply a piece of brown foam tied to the hook in the shape of dogfood. Also, the tarp scenario was actually what happened, he refused to be landed by hand :D . He was released safely back into the abyss

I used to chum grass carp with corn and just hook a piece on a hook on my fly rod, still fun! Looking back on it I sure wish I had a tarp for my carp.

The tarp worked as an improv net. It was kind of like the scales they use in tarpon tournaments.

Not me! I think it is a resource that should be tapped. The fact that it is hard to process to eat should have absoulutly no bearing on the sporting qualities they bring. After all C & R is getting to be the norm.

Did it come out of local public waters?

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

I have caught two grasscarp- both in golf course ponds- and I caught them both on a brown and copper bugger. They will take flies if you put them in just the right spot while they are feeding. Not sure if the mean to take the fly or just grab it while sucking down flora- but either way i hooked them inside their mouths.

I have caught them on #12 grey sowbugs suspended under an indicator.

I completely agree. It came out of my neighborhood pond.
