OzarkFishman Posted April 7, 2012 Author Posted April 7, 2012 We plan on having two trucks and floating down, then driving back. Is it obvious where the mill dam is? It may be a stupid question ... I would rather drag around a low head dam than risk it ... especially with kids. Is there anywhere else that may be tricky? I would rather be safe every time.
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 You'll realize what it is as you come in view of the hiway bridge. It isn't a dam now, but the base is still there and consists of a wall about a foot high reaching across the creek. The only thing that could cause you a problem would be to get hung on it and go sideways tipping over. The water on either side isn't really deep but it is a current. Only you know what your situation is so you might want to look it over. You can walk over it on the right bank if need be. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

If you have an adult in each canoe I wouldnt sweat it. Like Wayne said water is only 8 to 10 inches deep. Just go over it straight on. after u get over it and look back it will seem silly to have worried about it. BUT ALWAYS GOOD TO BE SAFE. I can remember 2 spots where the creek narrows up and current could push ya against a tree, but you can see it way ahead of time so a few good strokes of the paddle and you are by it. Have fun I have taken my daughter in a canoe on this float since she was 4 and never felt unsafe.
OzarkFishman Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 Well ... the guy and his 10 year old threw up all Sunday night. I had to quickly regroup and just went to Springfield Lake. Caught some fish, but not what I was looking forward to. Thank you all for all your advise, I will definitely float this section this year.
