A topic not often discussed about our local Lake is where to eat! I thought I would fire off a list of places that are NOT chain stores and are family owned in and around Beaver lake.

My wife and I love going out to the local eateries in the downtown area as they are far off restaurant row. I like the idea they are not a chain and the atmosphere is more laid back and relaxed and the food is much better quality.

#1. Hunan Chinese Restaurant 509 S 8th St, Rogers, AR 72756

It’s not a Buffet and the foods great, a true sit down restaurant where you can relax and enjoy a meal. Rumor is the owner is a fisherman and very friendly. Actually it’s this forums own WC.

#2. Lucy's Diner 511 W Walnut St · Rogers,

It reminds me of a throwback to the 1950’s food is excellent and just a laid back place.

#3. Chicago Dog 121 W Elm St Rogers (479) 636-3647

The name says it all HOT DOGS, and Ice Cream another throwback reminder to the 50’s and 60’ with excellent food

#4 Rail A Pizza Co 218 S 1st St · Rogers · (479) 633-8808

This is the Bain of my life. I have had Pizza from NY, CHI, FL, CALI, you name it I think I have tried it. But none beat the rail, Everything is fresh and you don’t dare order extra anything on the Pizza. The wings are good and the cheesy bread is awesome. But of great surprise is the desert. Apple pie made in cheesy bread doe smothered in a sugar cinnamon toping.

#5 Sam's Old Time Hamburgers (479) 986-9191 120 E Locust St Roger

Most have seen Sams as the drive out to the lake, The burgers are what made it famous and you better be hungry when you go they are what a burger should be.

Those are some of the places in Rogers that are worth a stop off anytime not just when you are going out to the lake. They are far superior to the big chain restaurants’ on the Row by 540 and prices for what you get really blow them away. If anyone has other Mom and Pop owned places let us know. I am always looking to support the local dinners.

Suzie Qs is my summer time favorite for a burger, fries and shake. I can't make it home from the lake without a shake or soft serve cone from Suzie.

Not sure of the address just corner of RT12 and 2nd street.

I often forget about downtown when I go out and your right there is a lot to be said for the local dinners.

But as far as the chains go, I an glad to see Logan's here in town.

I thought Sam's closed down? I hope not. Wait, that may have been the other place just across the tracks on the other side.

Interesting thread here. I often forget to try the downtown places. Some I had not even heard of before. I FINALLY have some new places to try. Tired of the same-old same-old.

Flying fish in Bentonville is getting a lot of business lately. I personally like it but some don't like it as much as Catfish Hole and other places. These two are not close to Beaver but........it qualifies cause' it's a FISH place! (haha)

Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message.

He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!

Sam's is still open, they just moved kitty corner from where they were. I go by there everytime I come to town and they are almost always busy.

Las Palmas at 200 W Poplar is a very good Mexican place we enjoy quite a bit. Friendly staff, great food. Try the Fajita Quesadillas (sp?).

I second every spot on your list. For better or worse, I'm also a big fan of the original Tony C's on Highway 12. I forget it's out there and will get a craving for their lasagna every now and then.

Just look for the BIG T REX next to Sam's. I like it better when they were in the small building next to HL&S very few people knew about it but now they can get crowed at lunch time and the secret is out.

We also forgot Catfish John's on Hudson Road(102/62) I think it is an older person's place but lunch time specials can't be beat. The frog legs are pretty good also.

Uh, hello? Monte Ne Inn. You don't even have to order there.
