Went to a cove near Ruark today. Had been catching a lot of crappie on the bank but with the cold weather that had really dropped back to deeper water. Finally caught 3 keepers (all females still with eggs). Also caught a nice 6.4 lb channel. It was full of rioe eggs and only about 1 week from spawning. With this coold weather it may slow down the spawning though.

#$@&*^, I tried to attach a picture of that cat but I will be darned if I can figure out how to do it.

they dont HAVE to move up to spawn...i heard wally marshall in a seminar one time that crappie dont have to move up to spawn i.e. conditions if females have been pushed deep lets say 21ft due to weather or flooding and they are ready to release thier eggs then they will do so where they are at. i had never thought about it before but it makes sense, and with the wierd weather this year you just never know what those fish are going to do!

Your right Hyde. With the exceptionally clear water in some parts of Stockton this year I wouldn't be suprised if they spawned deep, especially if the lake starts dropping and/or this roller coaster weather continues.
