Im going to stockton tomorrow morning for crappie, primarily. Just a trolling motor on battery, so can't be running around all over stockton. Im looking for a good spot to put in to catch some crappie, wouldn't be uspet if i caught a walley or some bass in the process. I would love to try an area that has some standing timber or such, possible something I could tie up to.

All in all, looking for input on where I could put a john boat in and catch some fish. Any suggestions?

Hey there Walker nice to meet you. I have noticed great access areas on the lake are the Eastern Arms and Southern areas for crappie & bass. You should probably access either near Aldrich at the High Point ramp if you can handle the many boats in the area. Or perhaps access down at Ruark Access. I have been closely following the fishing reports and the crappie seem to be biting in 2-6 ft deep waters near the brush piles and about 8 ft from the banks. I don't think I'll be down this weekend 'cause my buddy is wanting me to go crappie fishing down at Pom, but honest to goodness GREAT luck to you!!

You could go N. out of Greenfield on 39 highway and put in where it crosses Sons Creek or continue N on 39 approx 2-3 miles take R on dirt road that will lead you to access in the back of Greaser creek or cove about a mile S. of Greaser.

Walker, nice to have another "Jon-boater" on the forum! I run a 14' with a 40 thrust trolling motor and batteries. (2 batteries ran parallel can double your available running time!!) I do not have a trailer so I drop in out of the back of my truck. I went to Sons last week and it was very boat busy but there are two "ramps". One concrete for trailers and one raw gravel easy to drop out of a truck with no one else fighting for the spot cause it's not great for trailers. If you have a trailer this place is busy. But enough about the boat ramp. Fishing was good, we caught 5 keepers within 10 min of launching. All on minnows. Go left and head for the creek waters shallow and brushy or go right and head for deeper lake waters. We caught crappie for 3 hrs everywhere we trolled. Wherever you go - Good luck and be safe!

Help me!! Help me!! I've fell into fishing and I can't get out!!!

if you want some crappie, close access to ramp, then either the 39 access across sons creek or look on a map and put in at springfield cove. the road ends in water, and that cove is loaded with crappie. that would be my personal pick and better walleye chance!!

I did go to sons this last weekend, man...that storm was rough, especially for a jon boat. had to tie off to a standing timber, then hit shore when it was over to dump boat. only time we caught fish that day was in the storm, 9 crappie (all black and all male) and 1 white bass, 1 keeper LM. We didn't go to the creek end, went toward lake in coves. May try creek end under bridge next time, i like that area.

if you want some crappie...look on a map and put in at springfield cove.
Where is Springfield cove, couldn't find it on the map.

Walker, Springfield cove is about 2 or 3 miles north or downstream or toward the main lake from the CC ramp. It's got some great "main lake" channel swings within jon boat distance and it's far enough from both CC and other ramps that it doesn't get quite the pressure from other boaters but this time of year it's hard to find some alone time! That mile long south to north bank on the west side just past SC and the small coves off it produced some major numbers of bass for me earlier this spring... Probably some crappie there too I would guess as there is a lot of standing timber along there. Great jon boat launching ramp! I'd bet ole Strawhat knows that area pretty good... Good luck!

Is this fun or what!

Hartley would work...protected cove and less than a mile to Point B-4 I believe...
