Just come to the realization that you might just not know what you are doing? Exactly the way I feel everytime I fish during one generator. T. Beeson and myself fished between Outlet 2 and 3 this afternoon and I struck out completely. Not even a bite. I threw everything I could think of hoping to get bit. I just never seem to have any luck at all during generation. Granted not many people were catching, but that is still no excuse. I sure could use some tips from you experts who fish one generator regularly. Dano

I probably don't know what I'm doing either. But I did fish today during one generator and did fairly well. I started at the wire above #1 and worked my way down to #3 outlet over several hours. My rig for most of the day was a bead head mohair leech on 6X and a zebra midge tied on with 7X below that (tied to the bend of the hook on the leech). I also used a bead head san juan worm (red) in place of the leech part of the day. I was probably about 5 feet deep (medium sized indicator) most of the day but I varied it depending on the water I was fishing.

I really struggle sometimes during generation too. It's just been in the last year that I can consistently catch some/a few during generation. I generally just keep tinkering with the depth, different flies, different weights until something works. Some days I do use a split shot above the first fly but today it worked better with just the 2 weighted flies.

My last fish of the day was a beautiful 16" brown that was just above rebar. Most of my other fish today were smaller.

I hope that helps at least a little. Wish I had seen you. Would have enjoyed visiting with you.

Good fishing with you yesterday, Dano... Of course it would have been better to say good CATCHING with you... Yeah, we both struck out pretty bad. I had a nice 16 inch 'bow sniffing my boots the whole time and then noticed a couple of suckers... the fish kind, not the human kind... moving in. There was this one Brown that flashed his side at me from about 6 feet away and the one that jumped out of the water and flipped me the bird...

I threw almost every kind of fly I had in my box in the short time I got to fish and not even a look-see from my buddy swimmin' under my feet. Maybe I should have pulled out that "Power Bait" fly I keep hidden in my back pocket... :P

Oh well... at least none of the other 50 guys flippin' bugs seemed to be doing any better...

Terry same here, we'll do it again.

Greg thanks for the tips. I didn't try the leach yesterday and should have. Wished we could have run into each other. Maybe we can come up with an OAF button or something to identify ourselves... :D

Phil. Good idea, I will re-read Brians article. Dano

To hear my wife tell it that describes me perfectly. :D

I would rather be fishin'.

Now that I think about it I actually think it was after I read Brian's article on fishing during generation that I started doing better. It has a lot of good info.

Man, I tell you what. I am the exact same way. As soon as the generation starts, I might as well quit fishing, because I never have any other luck. I have been lucky if I drift something next to shore right about outlet 2 every once in awhile I will catch something, but not very often. I try everything, but just never have any luck with generation.

I fished Monday morning and they were running some water. I caught a couple browns and was getting frustrated and decided to go to Roaring River. I have never seen so many fish in the fly area ever!!! They were stacked!!! I got to fish a couple of hours caught 20+ and called it a day. Great day for fishing!

in my professional opinion.......I Have had alot of success by throwing the same patterns in bigger sizes. like for scuds instead or throwing sizes 16, 18, and 20....throw them in sizes 10, 12, 14. and midges in size 14 and 16. I have even thrown a scud in size 6 and had awesome fishing with one generator running. Find the seams and fish them. The fish want to use as little energy as possible.

There are two types of people. Those who dream dreams and wish, then there are the do'ers. I am a do'er!
