Luke Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Depth can also be a key. The water doesn't move as fast on the bottom of a river and fish will generally hug the bottom. Adding a little more weight to your setup may be all that's needed. Doing a good job of mending your line is also very important. Experimentation is a very fun part of fly fishing. With the water moving a little more swiftly, you might try to do a little Czech Nymphing with a heavily weighted scud. --Luke
Wayne SW/MO Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I've always found it tough, but I suspect its because the fish move out into the strongest current, to pick off what gets dislodged. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Danoinark Posted September 26, 2006 Author Posted September 26, 2006 Maybe someday one of you experienced guys would like to give an on stream seminar fishing one gennie. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Micheal Kyle Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 I got lucky I guess, fished from 10:00 am til 4:30ish and had 17 fish. Largest was approx. 20", with most in the 14" to 16" range. Caught all of my fish on a size 14 Bomber, using 5X tippet. I did have one advantage, because I fished from my boat. My most productive areas were the Big Hole, accross from the hatchery boat ramp, and below "The Place" formerly known as KOA. These areas were also the ones were I had seen the largest numbers of fish, above Point Royale. I did not see any monster fish, but I did see a good number of Browns in the 24" to 26" range, as well as several Rainbows in that size class. jim To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
Wayne SW/MO Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 I did have one advantage, because I fished from my boat. As big an advantage as that is, it doesn't compare to the advantage during a Shad kill. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
